Art Basel Miami Beach is a hub for the commerce of art -- buyers, collectors, art dealers and artists showcasing and shopping for art.

Last year, 46,000 people came to the event, and this year, organizers expect more. But Wednesday was for the VIPs, the people who come to buy. Click here to see photos from Art Basel Miami Beach.

"You get to really be able to see the art more quietly and you are able to put a reserve or buy early, because if you come back tomorrow, a lot of the work you are interested in will be sold," said art collector Victoria Killeen.

Art Basel has lit up Miami Beach. This is its 10-year anniversary, and it certainly has come a long way. More than 265 major galleries from five continents are here representing more than 2,000 artists.

"It's bigger. It's much more organized," said art collector Robert Shimsham. "I think it is drawing galleries from more of the entire world. The level has gone up with the level of the work."

Art Basel Miami Beach has also changed the cultural scene in South Florida.

The satellite fairs, known for displays with cutting-edge pieces, helped mold the Wynnwood Art District, but something like art cannot be stagnant. It must inspire, provoke and evolve.

"There are changes every year," said art collector and South Florida businessman Norman Braman. "The fair proves there is more going on in our community that has such a profound effect on everything."
